Family Agrees To Settlement Over Patient
Turned Away From Sumter Hospital
(Sumter) Dec. 15, 2005 - A family who sued Tuomey Hospital in Sumter has reached a $28 million settlement in the case.
Reverend Ronell Huggins was a diagnosed schizophrenic and diabetic. Back in 2001, he was turned away from the Sumter Hospital for exposing himself.
Huggins was arrested and taken to the Sumter County Detention Center. While there, no one gave him his medicine to treat the diabetes.
Huggins went into diabetic shock and died.
