South Carolina native J. Edward Bell, III, is one of a few remarkable individuals named to the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame. The National Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame was established to recognize attorneys’ outstanding commitments to the American legal tradition.
As an attorney and founding partner of Bell Legal Group in Georgetown, South Carolina, Ed has distinguished himself as a top civil litigator, trying over 400 major cases in multiple areas of practice. His willingness to fight on others’ behalf and give a voice to individuals when they need it most is exemplary. His history of mentoring students interested in pursuing the law has included assistance with financial aid, internships, and housing for national and international students. It is this passion for sharing knowledge and understanding of the law that led him to become the President of the Charleston School of Law in Charleston, South Carolina.
Nominees for this prestigious Hall of Fame award must be true champions and crusaders, which Ed has shown throughout his 40-plus-year career. His success in the courtroom put him at the forefront of jury research when he was involved in the initial founding of the Arvada Jury Project, a research project that analyzed the impact of trial lawyers and jury attitudes. This project drastically changed the way trial attorneys present their cases to juries.
The trial attorneys at Bell Legal Group continue to honor the principles on which Ed built his career and founded this firm.
